Premiere Pro Audio and Titles (beginner guide)

Mix audio tracks and add text titles to your sequence. Here’s how to do it in Premiere Pro on macOS, step by step — part of the free Premiere Pro beginner curriculum.

What you’ll do

• Switch to the Audio workspace (top workspace bar) to see audio-focused panels
• Open the Essential Sound panel (Window > Essential Sound): select an audio clip in the Timeline, then assign it a type — Dialogue, Music, SFX, or Ambience — to unlock targeted controls
• Use Loudness Auto-Match in Essential Sound > Dialogue to normalize dialogue to broadcast levels (-23 LUFS) or streaming levels (-14 LUFS) in one click
• Enable Ducking for a Music clip: tag the music clip as Music type, enable Ducking so the music automatically lowers in volume when dialogue plays
• Adjust clip volume by dragging the thin rubber band line (gain line) in the center of an audio clip in the Timeline — drag up to increase gain, drag down to decrease
• Add a title using the Type tool (T): press T, click in the Program Monitor, type your text — a text clip appears in the Timeline on a video track above your footage
• Open the Essential Graphics panel (Window > Essential Graphics): Edit tab shows text properties — Font, Size, Alignment, Appearance (Fill, Stroke, Shadow) — for the selected text clip
• Browse Motion Graphics Templates in Essential Graphics > Browse tab: drag a MOGRT template from the panel into the Timeline to use a pre-animated title
