Premiere Pro Export (beginner guide)

Render your finished edit and export it for delivery. Here’s how to do it in Premiere Pro on macOS, step by step — part of the free Premiere Pro beginner curriculum.

Lesson 7 of the Premiere Pro curriculum. This is the final lesson in the current Premiere Pro sequence.

What you’ll do

• Make sure the sequence you want to export is active in the Timeline (click in it)
• Open the Export Mode: File > Export > Media, or press Cmd+M — this opens a dedicated full-screen export interface
• Understand the Export Mode layout: left column shows export destinations (Media File, YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok, etc.), center shows a preview with the sequence range, right column shows output settings (Format, Preset, Video, Audio)
• Choose H.264 as the format for web delivery — it is the most universal codec for online video
• Choose the preset Match Source - Adaptive High Bitrate for a quick, high-quality H.264 export that automatically matches the sequence frame size and frame rate
• Set the output file name and destination by clicking the file path under the preview in the Export Mode center pane
• Click Export to start encoding directly (the app stays busy during export) — or click Queue to send the job to Adobe Media Encoder and continue editing while it renders in the background
• Understand the social media presets: YouTube 1080p HD, TikTok (vertical 9:16), Vimeo — each auto-configures resolution, bitrate, and frame rate per platform recommendations
